An entirely water-based civilization may not be advisable but there are enough resources in the sea to make it worthwhile for any side to have an aquatic city or two.Īlong with new resources comes new units (go submarines!) and new creatures. The sea itself is now teaming with new resources and life. This is not just a matter of grabbing good coastal hexes. This adds some neat strategies: staying in one place limits territory gain while allowing resources to be put toward buildings and units, while moving around can serve as a form of territory grab at the expense of units to defend it. The only way to add territory is to move. It has another purpose – culture does not allow aquatic cities' borders to grow. This can be especially useful early in the game for moving away from a suboptimal starting location and grabbing the prime real estate. All hexes directly surrounding an aquative city come under that city's control. When a city moves, it grabs new territory. The mechanic is similar to building a building: it takes a certain number of turns to move a city of a given size, modified by new techs. At first they start as tentative coastal cities, but researching the right tech allows them to be built out in the open ocean. Aliens can be pacified, to prevent them from attacking your units even when their nests are attacked, they can be pointed towards your enemies to strike them. Now the players have access to various Tech unlocks allowing them to influence or even control the native wildlife. Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide (PC) expands what can be done with the Aliens encountered on the planets. Pick your Traits carefully, since they will greatly influence your diplomatic standing. They can change dynamically, responding to events in the world. Each Trait can be upgraded for increased effects, using the Diplomatic Capital. Thanks to them various leaders have unique characteristics influencing their behavior. Personality Traits are a new feature introduced into Rising Tide gameplay. Additionally, every Leader has Fear and Respect track, showing their attitude towards you, based on you military strength and compatibility of both Leaders' traits. Diplomatic Capital allows you to determine Policies, improve your standing with other factions, but, more importantly: acquire new leader Personality Traits. Gain it by creating relevant buildings, making deals with other Civs, and more. Rising Tide modifies the Diplomacy system known from the base game, and introduces the Diplomatic Capital resource into Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – Rising Tide gameplay. Discover aliens and resources below the surface, exploit them and move your city to look for more. Moving floating cities will make you work out new strategies and move away from old habits. Thanks to this they will have access to technology hidden in the depths. Unlike their land-based counterparts, floating cities are free to move across water, one tile at a time. In Civilization: Beyond Earth - Rising Tide players can create new cities on the ocean surface. Rising Tide expands on the systems of the base game, making it even more of a unique production. It brings a host of new and improved features, including new biomes, aliens, and opening oceans for colonization.
